The Core deletion of prewriting (as distinct from reading and annotating) and the reduction of revision to editing really guts writing as a mode of learning (Janet Emig). Writing is a mode of logical thinking forever seeking unity, coherence, order, and transitions—questions of construct validity make continuing along this Core path treacherous for democratic governance, though perhaps not for college or career readiness. Thanks, Pauline. You’ve been generous with your time and provided deep insight into a crucial issue.
