Thanks for this connection, Kevin. In reading research a division between those who read books vs those who read magazines showed up decades ago when one method of data collection was to observe readers in airports, approach individuals with a brief set of questions, and then analyze differences in reading habits. Sure enough. Book readers are a distinct breed. Now in my novice perusal of brain activity, I see the same distinction re: brain functions and simple short texts vs complex developed texts. Goya’s uneasiness about reading in public could be a bad omen in these troubled times here in the US.
