This is a deeply insightful posting, which could be written only by an educator who reflects deeply, who possess significant experience working with children, and who has lots of knowledge from other educators like Dewey who also saw the fallacy of designing schools and learning experiences based on a linear factory model.

Thanks so much, Greg. I was very lucky to get involved with an adult literacy project around 1980 and volunteer with people who read Freire and then later enroll in the reading specialist program which introduced me to Dewey. Freire and Dewey lived in my mind for five years or so, one reason I decided to transition from community college to fourth grade in 1986. Something told me I would never fully understand teaching until I taught young kids. Best move I ever made. My whole outlook on schooling changed those years teaching nine and ten year olds. Really my whole outlook on life. Thank you for helping me feel that this Substack work is of value to teachers. Your comments from back when I started ltRRtl have fueled my motivation.
