Here is a photo of the Historic Folsom Farmers Market from my vantage point under the popup. The market elongates down a corridor, and marketers interact with vendors sort of on parade. Folsom itself has three markets, Palladio outside a mall, Sutter Street on a few blocks of ‘49 gold rush charm, and this one. They’re all great venues, but this one is the crown jewel.
The open area down which the totally tie died person is walking—I bet Janet loves those shoes and hat—is the setting. So we start playing I Wanna Hold Your Hand, and the line stops. People are moving closer and closer to us, and I notice a blockage forming. Then a circle forms, and a group of kids maybe 2-4 years old are dancing. Within 30 seconds Allan, my best new friend who manages this market AND hires the music for a network of markets, comes running up as though he feared an emergency, maybe a dog fight or even a pig-dog fight. It was crazy. When he saw the dancers bobbing and bopping like wannabe teenagers, I caught his eye and he grinned. When the song ended, the line started moving again. But some of the parents and children stayed. There’s a 30 second break between I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Help! I needed to find it on my Mac; I didn’t have it in the cue. We don’t often do two Beatles tunes back to back.
The tip jar ranneth over. Every coin and bill signifies a song someone enjoyed.
Great stuff! Sharing music lightens the suffering in the world!
