Here’s Justin!
A Podcast with Justin Moore, Future Teacher, on the New Florida U.S. History Standards for Public Schools
Justin Moore talked to us in a podcast several weeks ago about his experiences in public school during the end of No Child Left Behind and the start of the Common Core. He talks with me in this podcast about his plans to become a History teacher and about the disequilibrium he’s experiencing following the release of the “clarified” Florida Social Studies Standards. This political move by conservatives to exonerate Florida from its participation in our country’s original sin, to whitewash the history of slavery in order to spare White children from the sharp teeth of the facts, will never succeed so long as we have young people coming along like Justin to teach History. He would be happy to respond to any comments or questions you might have of him in the comments section.
Justin’s Coda
In case you missed the comment Justin added to his podcast posted yesterday, I’m posting it here. Thanks, Justin, for your commitment to teaching and learning and for your willingness to speak out in these strange times: “Thank you for having me! After our conversation, I was reminded of an additional point that remains important in the whole debate regarding how we teach history and social science.
