Good letters, Terry. Would that both sides be so reasonable and informative about the situation.

Well, at least such letters can be written. They are within the capability of human beings. Communication is key. Clarity. Accountability. Schools have become so siloed and walled off, the underpinning of what M. Scott Peck discussed in his book on the problem of evil in relation to the military during the Vietnam War. The shifting of responsibility. The refusal to accept responsibility. Fragmentation resulting from poor communication leads to horrible conditions for human beings. Communication among professional educators as an institution in a society is perhaps too much to hope for right now. Children are resilient. That may be our best hope. The adults aren’t showing much to recommend them for sainthood.

Not fiction - this was my work life the past three years. Must tell you more some time. Please look ahead in your schedule in October. I want you to be a guest speaker for my AI and Ethics classes, please.

Every little bit helps. It would be so difficult to be a teacher this year starting up with little understanding of AI. Deep into retirement as I am, the angst feels distant but very, very real. Teachers are resilient creatures in my experience, and this kind of sharing and empathy that popped up in your email is a great example. I didn’t look super close, but it appeared to be on target. I’ve always loved teachers from childhood on, even those who tried to make us not like them like my fifth grade teacher
