A Quick FYI Re AI
Three Things:
Knowledge cut off date for all prior posts on AI in ltRRtl—3.5 was 9/2021, now 7/2023
Training is all—what did the bot know, when did it know it, what were its ruling principles
Holy crap! Nice! Does an update cost extra?
PS. Bing AI has Internet access, I hear. I haven’t tried it but have read a little on Substack. It does what sounds like an annotated bibliography. Some of it will forever be beyond my brittle brain. I’ve read that the decision to give AI access to the web introduces security risks, particularly among people who are discussing investments, marriages, medical issues, etc. with the bot. I’m finding myself adopting the persona of a non-threatening human with no personality and no problems—sort of the stereotyped professor with a pipe and monocle—and have learned to prompt clearly, maybe a wee dram of metaphor sauce here or there, and use the academic language it likes. Keep in mind it classifies, regresses, and clusters information and then encodes words in organized prose. Does best with dry information. Metaphor sauce is peyote to the bot.
